Films I Watched On TCM / Film4 While I Was 'Working'

I was merely flicking through James Stewart'due south filmography and noticed that this is the primeval film I've seen him in.

For some reason, most of the Stewart films I've seen are from the 1950s onwards. I haven't seen any of his early comedies from earlier he went off and became a war hero and stuff, and near all the stuff I've seen him in has been post-1950 law-breaking films and westerns. I know, I'm equally surprised as you are.

Never thought a Jimmy Stewart western would include a Marlene Dietrich catfight scene that's longer than the Roddy Piper and Keith David brawl in "They Live" but here it is.

Pretty bawdy and contemptuous for its fourth dimension. Wasn't expecting much out of this and it punched well above its weight.

Stewart plays a balmy mannered deputy sheriff who outwits the saloon owner and town boss played by Professor Quatermass himself Brian Donlevy.

Dietrich is the caput dance hall girl (and madame?) who eventually falls for Stewart just puts on a 1-adult female show in the procedure. Including a scene where she literally beats the pants off a guy in poker, and information technology becomes a running joke throughout.

Western Wednesday #2

John Ford's Stagecoach was actually the moving picture that I saw last year which kicked off my involvement in starting this claiming. Destry Rides Over again is the only other pre-xl'due south Western from that LB cares most. Plus, I tin can't resist a Jimmy Stewart flick.

Every bit it turns out though, I really liked this! That is, until information technology fumbled the ending. I tin can't believe how much they built up his pacifism and smarts merely to end it in a Western-manner revenge shootout! Despite that, I was surprised at the amount of commentary and how much I was invested in the characters. Hoping for more than of this substance and less of the tropes in hereafter weeks!
